Polymarket flags 100 wallets amid $200M insider trading probe

Nearly 100 suspicious cryptocurrency wallets have been referred to law enforcement by Polymarket as the prediction platform faces mounting scrutiny over potential insider trading. A Bloomberg analysis identified roughly $200 million in flagged trades during the first half of 2026, primarily concentrated within volatile geopolitical event contracts.

Polymarket Chief Legal Officer Neal Kumar confirmed the company is strengthening its surveillance protocols as regulators investigate whether traders are weaponizing nonpublic information for financial gain. Because the platform operates on a public blockchain, investigators can map funding flows and trading patterns even when users attempt to obscure their identities through pseudonymous addresses. The flagged activity often features classic markers of informed trading, such as newly created wallets taking unusually concentrated positions immediately before major global events.

This heightened oversight follows high-profile criminal cases involving the misuse of sensitive information. In one instance, prosecutors charged U.S. Army Master Sergeant Gannon Ken Van Dyke with leveraging classified details about a military operation targeting Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to secure over $400,000 in profits. Similarly, Google engineer Michele Spagnuolo faces allegations of using internal search data to place $2.7 million in wagers. These cases have shifted the regulatory focus beyond government secrets toward private corporate data, forcing platforms to confront how they monitor contracts influenced by exclusive information.

Geopolitical markets, particularly those involving Iran, have become focal points for investigators, with over $529 million traded on strike-timing events. While a referral does not constitute a criminal charge, the move provides authorities with actionable wallet-level data. The pressure is compounded by international pushback; France recently ordered internet service providers to block the platform, citing concerns over market integrity and unauthorized gambling. As enforcement agencies grapple with applying traditional securities laws to decentralized prediction markets, the visibility of on-chain records remains the primary tool for tracing the flow of illicit profits.
